Efficient, secure, scalable - how Möbel Biller is redesigning business operations with the cloud
Möbel Biller looks back on more than 75 years of tradition and innovation. In 1948, Josef Biller founded a small furniture joinery in Landshut, which grew over the years into a regionally significant furnishing store with more than 500 employees across four locations. Today, Rainer and Kirsten Biller run the company, while the next generation, Maximilian and Michael Biller, are already actively involved. Möbel Biller combines tradition and modernity, using digital solutions to offer customers stylish living ideas, personalized advice, and excellent service. As a member of the BEGROS group, the company also benefits from a strong network within the industry.
As in many mid-sized companies in the kitchen and furniture industry, Möbel Biller's IT infrastructure has faced new demands in recent years. The existing hardware had grown over several years and was reaching its natural capacity limits given rising user numbers, growing data volumes, and modern security requirements. Routine tasks such as updates, maintenance, and data backups tied up valuable resources within the IT team, leaving less room for strategic development.
At the same time, the business environment was changing dynamically: new software solutions, a growing number of digital processes, and the desire for more flexibility, for example through additional store locations or remote work options, led to increasing demands on scalability and availability. Meeting these modern requirements with the existing infrastructure was only possible with growing effort.
As in many companies, the approaching end-of-life of the hardware also posed a challenge. Investment and operating costs were rising, while security and compliance requirements were becoming stricter. The existing IT landscape could only support the increasing pace of digitalization to a limited extent. Möbel Biller therefore proactively opted for a modern, future-proof solution that guarantees flexibility, security, and scalability in the long term.
With the migration to the SHD Performance Cloud, Möbel Biller pursued several strategic goals. The top priority was ensuring maximum stability to guarantee uninterrupted business processes, even during seasonal sales periods. At the same time, flexibility was to be significantly increased: IT resources should be dynamically scalable, new applications should be rolled out faster, and digital services should be easy to expand.
Another key focus was on security. Modern cloud security architectures, continuous updates, and operation in certified German data centers achieved a significantly higher level of security. In addition, the migration was meant to administratively relieve the IT department and make costs more predictable. Employees were meant to benefit from location- and device-independent access to applications, improving collaboration and efficiency in day-to-day business.
Möbel Biller evaluated various alternatives, including other cloud providers and modernizing the existing on-premise infrastructure. The goal was to find a solution that met both the technical requirements of the IT department and the company's strategic and organizational objectives.
The decision in favor of the SHD Performance Cloud was based on several decisive criteria. Particularly important were the high availability and stability guaranteed by redundant data centers and automated backups, as well as the scalability that flexibly adapts IT resources to growing demands. Security and compliance were equally important: data protection requirements under German and European law are fully met, and all data remains in certified German data centers. The SHD Performance Cloud also convinced through efficiency and cost control: investments in in-house hardware were eliminated, maintenance and update efforts were reduced, and a transparent pricing model enabled predictable IT costs.
Ease of use also played a central role: new software solutions can be integrated without complications, and employees can work productively without a lengthy onboarding period. Close collaboration with SHD during the evaluation phase helped demonstrate concrete benefits in practice, review proof-of-concepts, and clarify open questions early on.

The project kicked off in August 2023, marking the start of a carefully planned migration organized into clear phases. First, the existing IT environment was thoroughly analyzed to develop a detailed project and architecture plan. In parallel, the step-by-step buildout of the new network infrastructure began, and this was completed by January 2025.
Starting in May 2024, system separation began along with the buildout of the future data center network, specifically tailored to the requirements of the SHD Performance Cloud. This groundwork enabled the structured migration of the first servers to the cloud environment starting in August 2025. The ERP system, DMS, POS, and other central applications were then migrated step by step. Large volumes of data were transferred securely and without disrupting ongoing business operations, existing interfaces were seamlessly integrated, and the network connection was further optimized.
By the end of September 2025, the last productive system at the Eching location was finally migrated to the SHD Performance Cloud. Thanks to the structured approach, clearly defined fallback scenarios, and close collaboration with SHD, the migration was completed successfully.
Möbel Biller's new environment in the SHD Performance Cloud is based on virtual servers that can be scaled dynamically to absorb peak loads. Data backup is automated, with replication and fast recovery. Security includes modern encryption, firewalls, identity and access management, and continuous monitoring. Operations, maintenance, and support are handled by SHD as a managed service, significantly relieving the internal IT department.
The SHD Performance Cloud supports all critical systems, ERP, DMS, POS, and enables a consistent, secure, and flexible IT infrastructure.
After the migration, employees benefit from fast, location-independent access to applications and data. Systems such as ERP and POS run noticeably more stable and respond faster, even under peak loads. Downtime has been nearly eliminated, and backup and recovery times have been significantly reduced. Internal IT has been relieved, as routine tasks such as updates, monitoring, and backups are now handled by SHD.
The business departments report more efficient workflows and noticeably less strain, while the IT department has been able to free up resources for strategic projects. Cost benefits were also achieved: the elimination of outdated hardware, reduced maintenance and support costs, and transparent billing for cloud resources led to more predictable, more efficient IT costs.
The migration to the SHD Performance Cloud was an important step toward future readiness for us. Today we benefit from stable systems, flexible resources, and a noticeable relief for our IT department.
